Mary Anne Finger Rock was born Sept. 7, 1925, in D'Hanis to Arnold John Finger and Marie Marcella (Carle) Finger. She passed away on Sept. 13, 2010, at New Forest Estates Assisted Living in San Antonio, where she spent her last years. She was preceded in death by her husband, Ferd Joseph Rock, Jr.; her son, Jerry Lynn Rock; and her parents. She is survived by her son, John Rock of Hondo; daughters, Patricia Williams and husband Pat of San Antonio, Mary Ellen Weynand and husband Joey of Castroville, Teresa Rowlett and husband Mike and Barbie Patterson and husband Jay, all of San Antonio; 13 grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren; brothers, Jack L. Finger of San Antonio and David W. Finger of Fair Oaks; and sister, Betty Keeffe of San Antonio. Mary Anne graduated from D'Hanis High School in 1942 and was employed with the Hondo Army Air Field as a secretary during World War II. After the war, she continued to work until she married Ferd J. Rock, Jr., on June 24, 1947. She and Ferd made their home in Hondo, where they shared 52 years and raised six children. When their last child started school, Mary Anne worked in the Hondo ISD as a teacher's aide, until she retired in 1980. Always generous with her time, Mary Anne was active in any organization where her children were participants. She was a 50-plus year member of St. John the Evangelist Catholic Church and supported various activities. She was a member of St. John's Altar Society and Martha Club. She also volunteered at Medina Community Hospital. Mary Anne always enjoyed a good game of cards or dominos and belonged to several bridge clubs in Hondo and D'Hanis. She never passed up a trip to Vegas or Kinder, as she developed a taste for the nickle slots. She was a wonderful cook, accomplished seamstress and quilter. Mary Anne was a finalist in the 1975 Pillsbury Bake Off, with her Nutty Raisin Cake. Visitation will be Thursday, Sept. 16, 5 to 8 p.m. at Guinn-Horger Chapel, with Rosary to be recited at 7 p.m. Rosary will be recited at 9:45 a.m., Friday, Sept. 17, followed by Funeral Mass at 10 a.m., at Holy Cross Catholic Church. Interment will be at Holy Cross Cemetery, D'Hanis.
