Obituary

Mary Lou Saathoff Weeber of Hondo, Texas, passed away Saturday, Oct. 3, 2020, at the age of 91. She was preceded in death by her loving husband of 61 years, Harold Weeber.

Mary Lou was born in Quihi on March 1, 1929, to Walter and Myrtle Stiegler Saathoff, baptized at New Fountain Methodist Church on June 30, 1929, and confirmed at Bethlehem Lutheran Church in Quihi.

Mary Lou graduated from Hondo High School in May 1945. On Sept. 16, 1950, Mary Lou was married to Harold in Bethlehem Lutheran Church by Pastor C. Weeber, father of the groom. A move to Odessa, Texas, was made shortly thereafter where Mary Lou became a secretary for the principals of Brown Well Service/Brown & Root of Houston, Texas. While in Odessa, Mary Lou and Harold joined several couples to organize a new Lutheran church. The new ministry was completed in a couple of years and Mary Lou cited this as a wonderful experience which kept her active in the Lutheran faith her entire life.

In 1952 a move was made to Fort Worth and employment with Bell Helicopter. In 1956 Mary Lou and Harold were blessed with the arrival of their son, Terry. After 37 years working at Bell Helicopter as an accountant and group leader, retirement followed with several more years living in Fort Worth, on Lake Granbury and, ultimately, a move back to familiar territory with wonderful relatives and friends in Hondo. To be accepted and again become a member of her original home church, Bethlehem Lutheran in Quihi, was a tremendous delight as well.

Mary Lou was always very active in her church, a member of the choir, ladies society, and a Sunday School teacher for many years. She and Harold enjoyed traveling in the U.S. and abroad. Mary Lou was blessed with a long, happy life and good health. She spread joy, happiness, generosity and, most importantly, her faith to all who knew her.

Mary Lou was also preceded in death by her parents; sisters, Jean Saathoff Haby and Necey Saathoff Schulte; brother, Clenus Saathoff; and brother-in-law, Buddy Schulte.

She is survived by her son, Terry (Vicki) Weeber of Denver, Colorado; grandson, Matthew (Stephanie) Weeber of Denver; grandson, Kellen Weeber of Hong Kong, China; and great-granddaughters, Ellie and Claire Weeber of Denver; sister-in-law, Lillian Saathoff; brother-in-law, Lynn Haby, both of Hondo; and numerous beloved nieces, nephews and cousins.

We celebrate her joy at being with the Lord and those she loved who left this life before her.

Visitation will be 5-7 p.m., Sunday, Oct. 11, at Guinn-Horger Chapel. Funeral service will be 10:00 a.m., Monday, Oct. 12, at Guinn-Horger Chapel, followed by graveside service at the Quihi Cemetery. Please note: Face coverings will be required and social distancing will be practiced.

Memorials may be made to Bethlehem Lutheran Church, Quihi, 3901 FM 2676, Hondo TX 78861.
