Mary Henke Seifert, 84, of Hondo passed away on Oct. 19, 2013, after a prolonged illness. Mary was born Feb. 15, 1929, in Karnes County, TX, to Charlotte and Clem Henke. She was united in marriage to John Lewis Seifert, and they moved their five young children to Medina County in 1954. Over the years, Mary worked in the community as a teacher and in support roles in several local businesses. She also shared the responsibilities of running a ranch alongside her husband and sons. Mary loved the flora and fauna of central Texas, and she enjoyed gardening, canning, sewing, and participating in the local community. Mary was preceded in death by her husband, John Seifert, in 1990. She is survived by her five children, John Michael Seifert and his wife Jeanette, Susan Seifert and her husband Lionel Morrison, Pat Seifert, Anne Koontz and her husband Court, and Rebecca Seifert. Mary will also be missed by her four grandchildren, Julie Seifert, Jeremy Seifert, Jasper Koontz and Courtenay Koontz. Mary is also survived by her dear friends and dedicated caregivers, Carmen Sandoval and Irma Carmona, both of Hondo, and by five sisters and two brothers. She will be greatly missed by her family and friends. Visitation will be held Tuesday, Oct. 22, from 5 to 8 p.m., with a rosary recited at 7 p.m. at Guinn-Horger Funeral Home. Prior to the interment service at Hondo Cemetery, Oakwood Section, a Funeral Mass will be held at 10 a.m., Wednesday, Oct. 23, at St. John the Evangelist Catholic Church.
