Mary Lydia Moncada Ybarra of San Antonio, 81, passed away Thursday, Sept. 6, 2018. Born in Hondo, March 4, 1937, she was the daughter of Margarito and Savas Rios Moncada. A Hondo native, Mary Lydia was a devoted mother to her children. She loved reading and sewing. When her children were small, she enjoyed cooking and sewing for them. Her devotion continued when the grandchildren came along. She would cherish every moment she spent with them. Later in life, she took up quilting and loved to apply her skills and artistry whenever she could. She passed on her positive, can-do attitude to all her children, as well as her wonderful kindness, smile and sense of humor. She would light up a room with her uplifting spirit and laughter. Her memory will have a permanent, positive impact on all who knew her. Mary Lydia was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Pedro Ybarra; and brothers, Jerry Moncada and Johnny Moncada. Survivors include her sons, Pedro Ybarra Jr. of Nuevo Laredo, Jose Romeo Ybarra of Hondo, Alberto Ybarra (Martha Morales) of Leander; daughters, Leticia (Michael) Hoodenpyle of San Antonio, Regina Ybarra of Leander, Teresa (Sam) Garcia of Brookshire; 16 grandchildren and 16 great-grandchildren; brothers, Margarito (Petra) Moncada Jr., Mariano Moncada, Ricardo Moncada, George Moncada, all of San Antonio, Sammy (Linda) Moncada of Michigan, Rocky Moncada of Chandler AZ, and Teodoro (Rosie) Moncada of San Antonio; and sisters, Dolores (Marty) Avina, Sofia (Michael) Kusbel and Cecilia Mesquies, all of San Antonio. Visitation will be Sunday, Sept. 9, from 2 to 5 p.m. with a Rosary recited at 4 p.m., at Guinn-Horger Funeral Home Chapel. Funeral Mass will be Monday, Sept. 10, 10 a.m., at St. John the Evangelist Catholic Church.
