Matilda M. (Rico) Valdilles, age 81, of Hondo passed away Sunday, May 10, 2009, in Devine. She was born Mar. 12, 1928, in Hondo, the daughter of Victor M. and Paula (Martinez) Rico. She was a homemaker. Matilda was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Juan M. Valdilles Sr.; son, Juan Jr.; brothers, Victor Jr., Jose and Gilbert; and sisters, Albertina Benites, Victoria Lerma and Lenor Soto. She is survived by her daughters, Gloria Luenxavi and husband Chartri of Hanover Park IL and Arlinda Valdilles and husband Mike Silva of Devine; six grandchildren, two great-grandchildren; sisters, Carmen Piña and husband Manuel of Comfort, Felice Dueñas and husband Jose of Plano, Paulina Juanita Furns of Brownsville, Sofia Patton of Bismarck ND, Maria Morales of Oregon, Cleofas Salazar of Dallas, and Juanita Dominguez of Oregon; and sister-in-law, Maria Rico of Hondo. Funeral Mass was at 11 a.m. Wednesday, May 13, at St. John the Evangelist Catholic Church with Fr. Ken Dakin officiating. Pallbearers were Ray Valdilles, Senon Valdilles Jr., Gabriel Benites, John Henry Martinez, Frank Martinez, and Rudy Silva Jr. Interment was at Hondo Cemetery, Guadalupe Section.
