Maureen Elizabeth
Finger Krause
November 13, 1932 – October 27, 2025
Maureen Elizabeth Finger Krause, a native of D'Hanis and long-time resident of Wharton, passed away Monday, Oct. 27, 2025, in Boerne. She was 92.
Born Nov. 13, 1932, in Hondo, she was the daughter of Maurice Joseph Finger and Julia Lillian Wernette Finger.
The family ranch at D'Hanis was home during Maureen's early childhood years until they moved to Skidmore where she attended school. While in high school, she met Al Krause and they were later married. The couple eventually settled in Wharton where they raised their three children.
Maureen earned a degree in Science from the University of Houston and later went to Prairie View A&M to get her Masters in Math.
She taught at Wharton High School and, later, at Wharton County Junior College until she was 80.
She enjoyed spending summers in San Miguel de Allende, Mexico. There she worked for an American newspaper, took art and Spanish classes, socialized with other Americans living in San Miguel, and taught girls in an orphanage how to sew.
A devout Catholic, she loved the church, served as Eucharistic minister, and often was a driver bringing home-bound friends to Mass.
She loved to garden, read and travel. And she could cook – her chicken and dumplings were the best.
Her family will always remember her as a loving wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, and sister.
Maureen was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Alfred Sidney "Al" Krause; son, Paul "Bodie" Krause and his wife Diana; and sister, Norma Lee Henry and her husband John.
She leaves behind two daughters, Maureen "Booner" Mount (Steve) and Alma "Pinky" Brooks (John); six grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.
Rosary at 9:00 a.m., followed by the Funeral Mass at 9:30, will be Saturday, Nov. 8, at Holy Cross Catholic Church, D'Hanis, followed by interment at Holy Cross Cemetery #2, also at D'Hanis.
