Maxine Lillian Payton of Lakehills, went to be with the Lord on Monday, May 28, 2007, at the age of 82. She was born in North Lansing Township, MI, February 4, 1925, the daughter of James Edward & Erma Mildred (Doan) Byrd. She retired as Police Dispatcher-Matron from the Mt. Shasta Police Dept., Siskiyou County, in northern California. She was a traveler, having spent nine years RVing throughout the USA, Canada, Alaska and Mexico. She and her husband spent two years in Belize doing God's work for the Bahá'í Faith. She first became a Bahá'í in 1954, 53 years ago. She was a member of the SKP Park in D'Hanis, Hondo Garden Club, Hondo Art League, Lakehills Fire Department Auxiliary, and Lakehills AARP. After a long illness, she passed on peacefully. She will be missed, but, remember, she's at God's home in heaven. She is preceded in death by her parents; brother, Lavern Byrd; sister, Cheryl Coler. Maxine is survived by her husband Robert Charles Payton of Lakehills; son, David Baugh and wife Helen of Ovid, MI; daughters, Linda Corn and husband Robert of Redding, CA, Debra Crough and husband John of Weed, CA, Suzanne Gillies of Portland, OR; son, Craig M. Payton and wife Elaine of Mt. Shasta, CA; five grandchildren, six great grandchildren; sisters, Arloa Krumm and husband Vernon of Lake Whitney, Verna Docey and husband Stephen of La Grange, OH. The Graveside Service will be at 2:00 p.m. on Saturday June 2, at the Hondo Cemetery, Woodmen of the World Section.
