Melinda Jean Allen Deaver of Atascosa, formerly of Hondo, passed away at her home on Thursday, Nov. 21, 2019. She was 60.

Born in Ft. Worth, July 3, 1959, she was the daughter of Jesse Doyle "J.D." and Mable Gladys Waddell Allen.

Melinda was a loving individual, especially to her children and grandchildren. She was a hard worker. From her first waitressing job to her last CNA job, caring for people seemed to be her calling. She had a beautiful, funny, kind soul. Her children said she often gave the best advice when scolding them for being naughty. She always had everyone's best interest at heart and was a blessing to all who knew her. Known to many as "Mama Melinda", she was always there for anyone who needed help.

She was preceded in death by her parents and her sister, Judy Brown.

Survivors include her husband, James E. Deaver; children, Celeste Coleman, Dallas Betancourt, Presley Deaver, Cindy Beck, Rance Rainer and Larry Culp; 11 grandchildren; and brother, Elbert L. Allen.

A memorial service will be held at a later date.
