Melvin Earl White of Sabinal, age 80, passed away Monday, July 26, 2010. He was born February 2, 1930, in Coleman, TX, son of Claud and Willie Mae (Funderburg) White. ¿½Wency¿½, as he was known in school, graduated Coleman High School, where he was an outstanding athlete. He married Eleanor Ann Henry April 17, 1954, at First Baptist Church in Sabinal. Melvin enlisted in the Army and served his country in the Korean War. After leaving the service, he earned a Master¿½s Degree and during his years in public education, he was a coach, teacher and principal. He also served as a deacon of the First Baptist Church, was a member of the Sabinal Masonic Lodge, and was an avid golfer. He was preceded in death by his parents; brothers, Lyle, I.A., Ted, Fred, and Leo; and sister, Claudia Mae Brice. Melvin is survived by his wife of 56 years, Eleanor; sons, Robin Alan White and Tobin Craig White; daughter, Rhonda Ann Jackson and husband Will; two grandchildren, Maury and Liam Jackson; brothers, Roy White and wife Shirley and Donnie White and wife Kim; and sister, Jimmie Wooten. Visitation will be at First Baptist Church in Sabinal from 1 to 2 p.m., Thursday, July 29, and the funeral service will be at 2 p.m. with Rev. Monty Benson officiating. Interment will be at Sabinal Cemetery. Pallbearers are Stephen Henry, Jimmie Henry, Ray Henry, Eddie McKinney, John Thomas Buchanan, Charlie Story, Joe Boyd and Maury Jackson. Honorary pallbearers are C. R. McFarland, Lon Rushing, Ross Burris, Elton Burns, David Little, Carl McMillan, Bill Jones, Bill Stephenson, Mike Nuckles, Eck Horton, David Fowler, Ken Cave, James Hargett, and Joe Redus.
