Michael Ross Schmiz of Hondo passed away Friday, July 22, 2022, at the age of 55.

Born Oct. 21, 1966, in Bethesda MD, he was the son of Louis and Carol Ann Barron Schmiz.

Ross was definitely one of a kind. He was a kind, loving, nurturing soul. Everyone who knew him loved him as a brother or an uncle. He was so much more than a friend to many. Ross loved to spend his time building things, working on classic cars, riding his motor cycle, listening to classic rock, or just having a good conversation with a friend.  He always joked that he should been born sooner, said his dad had all the cool cars and great music that he loved.  Ross was a very intelligent man. He loved to spread his knowledge to whomever would listen.  He was always up for everything and would be there to help anyone at any time of the day.

He is preceded in death by his father and his brother, Robert Scott Ackerman.

Ross is survived by his mother and stepfather, Carol Ann and Carl Kasterko of New Bern NC; sister, Christie Craven; nephew, Dylan Craven and children, Sophia and Aubrey; and his aunt and uncle, Phyllis and James Schoellman of Hondo.

A memorial service was held Thursday, July 28, at Guinn-Horger Funeral Home Chapel.
