Miguel D. "Mike" Leyva of Hondo, age 93, passed away Thursday, Dec. 8, 2017. Born Sept 29, 1924, in Hondo, he was the son of Bentura and Juanita Dominguez Leyva. He was a skilled farm laborer. Mike is preceded in death by his parents; son, Rudolfo "Rudy" Leyva; sister, Virginia; and daughter-in-law, Linette Leyva. He is survived by his wife, Rosa Barrera Leyva; daughters, Elida (Pedro) Cardenas of Idaho Falls ID, Janie (Kevin) Womack of Boise ID, and Anna Lisa (Americo) Salazar of Houston; son, Ruben Leyva of Hondo; 14 grandchildren and 44 great-grandchildren; brothers, Jesus (Sofia) Leyva and Frank (Marta) Leyva, all of Hondo, and Salvador Leyva of San Antonio; and sisters, Cecilia Nira, Minerva Campos, and Lucia (Candelario) Garcia, all of Taylor. Visitation will be Monday, Dec. 11, 5 to 7 p.m., at Guinn-Horger Chapel, with Rosary recited at 6 p.m. Funeral service will be at 11 a.m., Tuesday, Dec. 12, at St. John the Evangelist Catholic Church. Interment will follow at Hondo Cemetery, Oakwood Section.
