Miguel Ortiz, Sr., age 81, of Hondo passed away Friday, Aug. 15, 2025.

Born Jan. 5, 1944, in Big Foot, he was the son of Juan Ortiz and Fidela De La Rosa Ortiz.

Miguel worked as an oil field roughneck before becoming a ranchhand for several Big Foot area ranches. He enjoyed working crossword puzzles and watching football games and old western movies.

He is preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Maria B. Ortiz; and brother, Juan Ortiz, Jr.

Miguel is survived by his sons, Miguel Ortiz, Jr. (Sylvia), Ruben Ortiz (Olivia) and Monica Valdilles (Ray); 19 grandchildren, numerous great-grandchildren; and brothers, Joe Ortiz, Alex Ortiz, Victor Ortiz, Robert Ortiz, Julio Ortiz, Alma Stobbs, and Marivel Ortiz.

Graveside service will be at 10:00 a.m., Tuesday, Aug. 19, at the Hondo Cemetery Annex.
