Milton Mumme, Age 80 years, 8 months, and 19 days, of Hondo, Texas, died on Friday, December 17, 2004. He was born in Vandenburg, on March 28, 1924, the son of Earnest Louis & Ella Alvina (Helmke) Mumme. He was the second of five children born in the family. He was baptized on June 8, 1924 at the New Fountain Methodist Church and confirmed at St. Paul Lutheran Church in Hondo on June 6, 1939. He remained a member at St. Paul until his death. After attending school he worked on the family farm until he was drafted to serve in the U.S. Marine Corps in May of 1945. He remained in the Marine Corps until the wartime forces were reduced and he was discharged in August 1946. He married Zella Mae Schweers on July 30, 1949 and their union was blessed with two children, Allen and Sherman. As he raised his family he worked in many capacities with an emphasis in auto mechanics. After a lengthy career at Southwest Research Institute in San Antonio, retired and once again returned to farming. He continued in farming and ranching until shortly before his death. He was preceded in death by his parents; grandson Michael Mumme; brothers, Alfred E. Mumme, Clinton G. Mumme. Milton is survived by his wife Zella Mae (Schweers) Mumme; sons Allen Wayne Mumme and wife Mary of Unvale, Sherman Joel Mumme and wife Lisa of Uvalde; grandchildren Scott Mumme, Theresa Igharo, Ashley Mumme, Mathew Mumme, Nicholas Mumme, step-grandchildren Sean Noblett, Jennifer Lippert; seven great grandchildren; brother George O. Mumme of Quihi; sister Laura Ann Nietenhoefer of Hondo. The Visitation will be from 5:00 pm until 8:00 pm on Sunday, December 19 at the Guinn-Horger Funeral Home and the Funeral Service will be at 2:00 pm Monday, December 20, at the St. Paul Lutheran Church in Hondo. The pallbearers were Scott Mumme, Chester Schmidt, Claude Schuehle, Lugard Igharo, Danny Roeder, Gerald Adamietz. Burial will follow in the Hondo Cemetery, Oakwood Section.
