Obituary

Minnie Alina Wiemers Buss, age 101, of Hondo passed away Thursday, July 24, 2013. Born in New Fountain, Jan. 28, 1912, she was the daughter of George H. and Ida Johanna (Bishoff) Wiemers. Minnie was a lifelong member of New Fountain Methodist Church. She played the piano, sang in the choir, and was a member of the UMW. Rarely did she miss church and stayed active as a child and as an adult. When asked what she did as a child growing up on the farm, she would say, "I had four brothers, so I had to help Mama with cooking, baking and cleaning." She also worked at Rath's Bakery in Hondo before she met and married Charles Buss. They moved to San Antonio, but still came to New Fountain for church. Her nieces can picture her smiling and waving good bye and saying, "will see you next week." Her step-grandchildren recall going over to Pop and Minnie's. She always had time to play games with them, either inside or outdoors. We all remember molasses cookies that were perfectly round. After her husband's death, she remained in SA, enjoying various activities with her neighborhood friends. As time went on, she realized she was no longer safe in her home. She entered Community Care Center in 1998. There staff and residents became her family. She enjoyed people and learned a new lifestyle. Her childhood friend, Fred Heickman, took her to church each Sunday. They enjoyed trips to the DQ, watching TV or just remembering old times. She knew she had made the right decision. As time went on she stayed healthy, but memory faded away. We will all miss her, but know one day we will see her and Pop in heaven. Minnie was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Charles Buss; brothers, Edwin John, Marvin G., Wesley C., and Milton C. Wiemers; niece, Betty Wiemers; and nephew, Bruce Wiemers. Survivors include her stepdaughters, Jeanette Harrison of Temple, Dorothy Hook of Dallas and Frances Williams and husband Curly of Adkinson; eight step-grandchildren, 12 step-great-grandchildren; nieces, Evelyn Steubing of Hondo, Dorothy Fowler of Devine, and Karen Benson; nephew, James Wiemers; and sister-in-law, Helen Wiemers, all of San Antonio. Funeral service was held Saturday, July 27, 10 a.m., at New Fountain United Methodist Church, followed by interment at New Fountain Cemetery.
