Obituary

Morris Ivy of Uvalde passed away on September 16, 2010 at Uvalde Memorial Hospital. He was 95. Morris was born the third son of Henry Jefferson Ivy and Eliza Beard Ivy. He was fortunate enough to grow up running and roaming the hills and valleys above Utopia. He spoke of going to a one-room schoolhouse and remembered those days fondly. He had four brothers: Fred, Ray, Mellie and Arthur, as well as two sisters: Edith Walker and Louna Beard, all of whom preceded him in death. He knew and loved local girl, Ethel Garrett, for years, and she became his bride on August 31, 1944. Four children were born to them, three daughters and a son. Ethel preceded him in death in January, 1967. On September 9, 1972 he married Verdis Massey in Castroville, Texas. That union lasted until his death. Morris was a farmer and a rancher, and was known throughout the county for training border collie dogs for sheep and goat herding. He is survived by his wife, Verdis N. Ivy, children Roberta Keeble, Marsha Ivy, Lannie Ivy, Billie Juarez, and step-children Bertha Mehaffey and Jimmy Massey. He had 13 grandchildren, including Justin Ivy, Lucas Ivy, Julye Keeble and Stephanie Juarez. Various nieces and nephews will miss "Uncle Morris". He is also survived by his last faithful canine companion, Jackie. Visitation will be on Monday, September 20, 2010 from 6:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. at Guinn-Horger Funeral Home in Hondo. A graveside service will be held on Tuesday, September 21, 2010 at 2:00 p.m. at Waresville Cemetery in Utopia. Casket carriers were Justin Ivy, Joshua Massey, Shane Hicks, Sr., Joel Massey, Robert Piozzi, Patrick O'Neill, Lucos Ivy. The family suggest memorials be made to the Uvalde Animal Shelter, 2893 North U.S. Highway 83, Uvalde, Texas 78801, or to any animal-related charity of choice.
