Nathaniel Raymond "Nat" Carman, age 88, of Hondo passed away Saturday, Sept. 12, 2015. Born Dec. 6, 1926, in Thompson Ridge NY, he was the son of Henry M. and Margarite Blauvelt Carman. He graduated from Walden (NY) High School, joined the Navy at age 17 during WWII, and served aboard the aircraft carrier Antitum which was sent to Korea. Learning food service techniques during his 10 years in the Navy, he went on to manage several fine dining restaurants and served as president of the Corpus Christi chapter of Texas Restaurant Association. After his food service career, he worked more than 23 years for BASF in Klute where he earned "employee of the quarter" honors. He enjoyed woodworking, crafts, fishing and sports. He is preceded in death by his parents; sister, Dorothy Mae Lewis; and brother, George Carman. He is survived by his wife, Florine E. Delmare Langford Carman of Hondo; daughter, Natalee (William) Merlone of Angleton; son, Bryan (Susan) Carman of Mesquite; stepchildren, Lex (Flo) Cottle of Hondo, David (Santa) Cottle of Corpus Christi, Richard (Linda) Cottle of Devine, Tom (Georgia) Cottle of San Antonio and Cindi Kriewald of Hondo; and 11 grandchildren. A graveside service will be held at 10 a.m., Monday, Sept. 14, at Hondo Cemetery, Oakwood Section. The family suggests memorials may be made to First United Methodist Church, Hondo.
