Nora Katherina Emilie (Leinweber) Baizen, daughter of August J. Leinweber and wife Minnie (Reitzer) Leinweber, was born August 7, 1915 in Hondo, Texas. Nora was called to her Lord in heaven on Sept. 9, 2018. At the time of her passing at the age of 103, Nora was living at Community Care Center of Hondo. At St. Paul Lutheran Church in Hondo, she was baptized Sept. 19, 1915, by Rev. A. Falkenburg; was confirmed Sept. 11, 1927, by Rev. H. A. Heinke; and was married to Milton Theodor Balzen on Oct. 29, 1935, by Rev. Walter C. Leibforth. Nora and Milton were long time residents in the Quihi area and remained members of Quihi Bethlehem Lutheran Church even after moving to Hondo in 1996. An active member of the Quihi church, she had served as president of the Women of the Church, secretary of Stewardship, on the Sick committee for 11 years, and as a member of the Altar Guild. She was a devoted homemaker and enjoyed her flower garden, raising vegetables, farming and cattle ranching in Quihi. Nora loved country music and dance. She and Milton danced together for 70 years. Nora was preceded in death by her parents, husband, and her brothers, Milton Leinweber, Marvin Leinweber, Eddie Leinweber and Hilmer Leinweber. She is survived by her brother, Elton A. (Tony) Leinweber of Boerne, along with numerous nieces and nephews. Visitation will be from 9 to 10 a.m., prior to the funeral service at Quihi Bethlehem Lutheran Church at 10 a.m. (today), Thursday, Sept. 13. Interment will follow at Hondo Cemetery, Oakwood Section. Memorials may be made to the Quihi Bethlehem Lutheran Church building fund.
