Norberta (Castillo) Gonzales, age 68, of Hondo passed away Thursday, Sept. 17, 2009, after fighting cancer. Born June 6, 1941, in Hondo, she was the daughter of Ignacio and Eluteria (Salazar) Castillo. She is preceded in death by her parents and stepmother, Andrea Hernandez Castillo. She is survived by her daughters, Maite Cuellar (Russell Dyall), Imelda Gallardo, and Norberta Gonzales II (Edward Pharr); son, Jose C. and wife Barbara Felan Gonzales, all of Hondo; half-brother, James Castillo and wife Janie of San Antonio; half-sister, Melissa Puentes and husband Roberto of Hondo; companion, Teodulo 'Guero' Martinez of Hondo; 10 grandchildren, Ruben Gallardo Jr., Eluteria Cuellar (Xavier Carmona), Yvonne Cuellar (Michael Constante), Jose Gonzales III, Johnny Cuellar Jr. (Tunisha Palacios), Jennifer Luna and husband Mike, Joseph Monreal, Larry Carbajal, and Laura Carbajal; and 20 great-grandchildren. Rosary was held at 7 p.m. Sunday at the Guinn-Horger Chapel. Funeral service was held at 11 a.m., Monday, Sept. 21, at St. John the Evangelist Catholic Church. Pallbearers were Joseph Monreal, Larry Carbajal, Michael A. Constante, Ruben Gallardo, Jr., Javier Carmona, and Jose Gonzales III. Interment was in th Hondo Cemetery, Oakwood Section.
