Obituary

Norvell James Jenkins of Hondo, went to be with the Lord on Sunday, December 9, 2007, at the age of 65 years. Norvell was born on June 23, 1942, in Hondo, Texas, the son of Jim Edd & Virginia (Moehring) Jenkins. He became a child of God through Holy Baptism at St. Paul Lutheran Church in 1959. He graduated from Hondo High School in 1960 and was alife long Hondo Owl. He attended Sam Houston State College studying music, architecture and Drafting. During his lifetime he worked for City Public Service (in San Antonio) as a draftsman and was president of San Antonio Jaycees during the late 1960's. He also worked as a restaurant manager in San Antonio and Houston, as well as in Aero Service mapping, and later in the feed business and woodworking. He was the owner of Norv's Woodshop. Norvell was very community minded and shared his talents with the local community, wherever he lived. He will be remembered for his work in establishing "La Semana Allegre" in 1968 while he served as president of the San Antonio Jaycees. He helped preserve local history as he worked with the Medina County Museum and served on the Museum Board. In 2001 he was named an Honorary Band member for his work with Hondo Band Bosters - both as a Dad and serving as their President. His wife of 30 years, Joyce, shared that his favorite holiday was Valentine's Day because he said they would always be sweethearts. He is preceded in death by his father, Jim Jenkins. Norvell is survived by his wife, Elizabeth Joyce (McCaskill) Jenkins of Hondo; son, David Winship and wife Darla of Corpus Christi; daughter, Katherine Jenkins of Hondo; mother, Virginia Jenkins of Hondo; granddaughter, Whitnee Winship. The Visitation will be at the Guinn-Horger Funeral Home on Wednesday, December 12, 2007, from 5:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. The Funeral Service will be at the St.Paul Lutheran Church on Thursday, December 13, 2007 at 2:00 p.m. Casket bearers were Jim McCaskell, Larry Muennink, Pat Stein, Bruce McCaskill, Henry Nester and Frank Martinez. Burial Service will follow at the Hondo Cemetery, WOW Section.
