Olene Marie (Fisher) Guinther of Leakey was born January 30, 1922, in Rio Frio, Texas, to Jackson Emsley and Mabel (Howard) Fisher. She died Oct. 27, 2009, at Community Care Center in Hondo, at the age of 87. She attended school in Rio Frio and graduated from Leakey High School. After graduation, she moved to Austin in 1938 to work at Paw Price's Confectionary. When World War II started, she went to work at Garner Field in Uvalde as a certified mechanic where she worked on PT19 trainer planes. There she met the love of her life, Carl Guinther, and they were married Nov. 4, 1943. She is preceded in death by her parents; her husband; brothers, Norris Fisher and Harrel Jackson Fisher and wife Doris; sister, Marianne Fisher; brother-in-law, Bob Guinther and wife Helen; her son, Roger Von Guinther and wife Cynthia; and her granddaughter, Kelly Lynn Guinther. She is survived by her sons, Carl J. Guinther, Jr. and wife Patricia of Hondo and Max A. Guinther and wife Melody of Pipe Creek; seven grandchildren and 20 great-grandchildren; her sister, Barbara Gayle Goad and husband Joe of Lorena; her brother, Calvin Eugene Fisher and wife Barbara of Ingram; and her sister-in-law, Jo Ann Fisher of Leakey. The Nelson Funeral Home Chapel in Leakey will be open for visitation from 6 to 8 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 29. Graveside funeral service will be held Friday, Oct. 30, at 11 a.m. at Leakey Floral Cemetery, with Pastor Stephen Schur of Bethlehem Lutheran Church, Quihi, officiating. Pallbearers are grandchildren, Jolene Guinther-Navarro, Tracye Ward, Keith Guinther, Kevin Guinther, Baron Guinther, Michele Empson, and Mandy Warren.
