Obituary

Oralia O. Dominguez, Age 80 years, 9 months, and 22 days, of Austin formerly of Hondo, Texas, died on Tuesday, November 23, 2004. She was born in D'Hanis on February 1, 1924, the daughter of Amadeo & Felisiana (Rodriguez) Ortiz. Oralia was a devoted wife, mother, and grandmother. She married the "late" Lucio S. Dominguez in 1945 and they remained together until his passing in October of 2003. They were together in a loving marrage for 58 years. They were joined by their only son Steve, in 1957. Oralia came from a family of 12 brothers and sisters. She was raised in D'Hanis by her parents. Once married she and Lucio made their home in Hondo. Their marriage began having to work as migrant workers to provide for one another. Oralia then became a seamstress and a stay at home mom. She made her extra money by altering and sewing dresses and taking care of children. Oralia was very close with her brothers and sisters. Her love and compassion for her family showed within the many family gatherings during the holidays, weddings, birthdays, and pop-in visits. She was a good mother, both loving and strict, showing tough love. She was very devoted to her family. She and Lucio were rarely apart. She was always involved in her son's life and proud of his accomplishments and achievements. Oralia and Lucio enjoyed their participation at their grandchildren's activities. They attended a military ceremony for their granddaughter in Chicago, which they stated was very memorable to them. They also enjoyed attending their grandson's baseball games. Oralia would always say that she never imagined attending these types of activities at her day and age. The many years of memories God gave Oralia on this earth are to be treasured in our hearts forever. The love that Oralia and Lucio shared will always be remembered and carried through their son, their grandchildren, and their many generations to come. May we all carry her love and memory. She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Lucio Dominguez; brothers, Leandro Ortiz, Amadeo "Shorty" Ortiz, Gilbert Ortiz, Sr.; sisters, Carolina (Ortiz) Garcia and Balbina (Ortiz) Orosco. Oralia is survived by her son, Steve Dominguez and wife Odilia "Lillie" of Austin; sister, Dominga (Ortiz) Hernandez of Austin; brothers, Alejandro Ortiz of D'Hanis, Ramiro Ortiz of D'Hanis, Nemecio Ortiz of D'Hanis, Ismael Ortiz of D'Hanis, Basilio Ortiz of D'Hanis.
