Obituary for O.J. (Butzie) Steubing O.J. Steubing was born on Feb. 8, 1929 to Richard and Hulda (Grosenbacher) Steubing in San Antonio, Texas. He went to be with the Lord on August 17, 2006 at the age of 77. O.J. was preceded in death by his first wife, Margie (Milsaps) Steubing and is survived by his wife, Evelyn (Grell) Steubing; daughters Jeanie Mayfield and husband Wade, Nancy Jonas and husband Earl, and son Charles Steubing and wife Marsy; step-daughter Sherri Schmidt and husband Stacey; step-son Warren Grell and wife Amy. Also survived by grandchildren John Mayfield and wife Peggy, Tom Mayfield and wife Alisa, Ben Mayfield and wife Lisa, Kimberly (Jonas) Thompson and husband Chris, Colby Jonas, Jenny Steubing, Max Steubing; step-grandchildren Brandon Grell, Kevin Grell, Richard Jones and Rebeca Jones; aunts Dorothy Steubing Wright, Bernice Steubing and Wilma Steubing. Also survived by brother -in- laws Johnny Milsaps and wife Lottie, James Wiemers and wife Diane; sister-in-laws Verna Bell Steubing and Dorothy Fowler; mother -in-law Norma Wiemers; and eight great grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews. O.J. was raised in the Leon Valley area where he worked in the family dairy business and also worked for Kiesling Plumbing Co. until 1979. Butzie and Margie moved to the Hondo/Quihi area and joined Bethlehem Lutheran Church. There was always a special project O.J. was working on, such as tearing down the old home on his property and using the lumber to build a chapel in the pasture behind his home which has now been relocated to Bethlehem Lutheran Church. Other projects have been raising birds, goats, and catfish. His latest project was breeding dachshunds, although he liked keeping them more than selling them. O.J. was known for his delicious peanut brittle and tamales which he shared each year with friends and family at Christmas. He was a joyous, good-humored man who loved his family and his Lord. He will be missed. Pall bearers are John Mayfield, Tom Mayfield, Ben Mayfield, Colby Jonas, Max Steubing, Jeni Steubing, Frank Weymeyer, and Danny Steubing. Honorary Pall Bearers are: Danny Dean, Richard Saathoff, Elbert Wiemers, David Steubing , Melvin Dittmar. Kim and Chris Thompson . Services will be held on at 10:00 a.m., Monday, August 21, 2006 at Bethlehem Lutheran Church, Quihi, Texas. Visitation will be from 5:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. Sunday, August 20, 2006 at Guinn Horger Funeral Home, Hondo, Texas. In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorials be given to the Bethlehem Lutheran Church Building Fund.
