Patricia Ann "Pat" Shoup Wernette Dunn of Hondo passed away on Saturday, April 22, 2023, at the age of 92.

Pat was born in Meadville, Pennsylvania, August 14, 1930, to Coral and Floyd Shoup. Her parents preceded her in death.

On July 25, 1946, Pat married Louis J. "Boots" Wernette in Hondo, TX. They were married 48 years and had three children. In 1959 she and Boots moved to the family farm/ranch south of Hondo. In addition to maintaining a home and raising three children, she worked in Hondo. During those years, she worked at the Favorite Cafe, Grisham's Grocery, Chapman Grain and in the offices of Drs. Parker and John Meyer. On the family farm she spent many hours in the fields driving tractors and grain trucks and helping with the cattle. For years she also "burned up the roads" taking her kids and the neighborhood kids to football and band practices.

Several years after Boots' death in 1994, she married Milton Dunn in 1998. She and Milton continued to live on the farm and raise cattle until his death in 2013. Pat stayed on the farm and never wanted to move into town, even with her health failing. She loved the beauty and the peace and quiet of country living.

Pat was a member of St. Paul Lutheran Church where she worked several years with the church's bereavement committee. She was also an active member of the Texas Women for Agriculture.

She loved traveling, dancing, and attending the Hondo Hootenannys. She also enjoyed playing cards (especially Pitch and "hand and foot") with friends and family and really enjoyed going on gambling junkets.

Pat is survived by her daughter, Carol Wernette Roberts (Dow) of Fair Oaks Ranch; sons, Edward L. Wernette (Theresa) of San Antonio and Robert L. "Bob" Wernette (Brenda) of Hondo; grandchildren, Renae Tschirhart (Ted), Kirk Wernette (Rebecca), Shane Wernette (Sarah), Lance Wernette, Kayla Burt (James) and Dustin Alexander (Tandus). Also, great-grandchildren: McKenna and Tyler Tschirhart, Cooper and Rinley Wernette, Olivia and Landon Wernette, Kinsley and Cohen Burt, Adysen and Reyd Alexander, along with many nieces and nephews.

She is also survived by stepson, Larry Dunn, and stepdaughters, Jamie Hetherington (David) and Barb Roach.

She has departed this life, but has left many fond memories for her family and friends.

Visitation will be Tuesday, Apr. 25, 5 to 7 p.m., at Guinn-Horger Funeral Home Chapel.

Funeral service will be at 2:00 p.m. Wednesday, Apr. 26, at St. Paul Lutheran Church, followed by interment at Hondo Cemetery, Oakwood Section .
