Pedro Oranday Sr. of Hondo, 94, passed away Monday, Aug. 7, 2017. Born Aug. 1, 1923, in Hondo, he was the son of Cipriano and Amada Gudino Oranday. Pedro had been an aircraft mechanic for Gary Aircraft and a kiln loader at D'Hanis Brick and Tile. He enjoyed working in his yard. He loved ranch work and caring for his goats and chickens. He is preceded in death by his parents; wife, Francisca Piña Oranday; sons, Benny and Ernesto; brothers, Max, Tomas, Ramon and Tanis Oranday; sisters, Estefana Reyes and Juanita Castillo; and three grandchildren. He is survived by sons, Pedro (Gloria) Oranday Jr. of Bandera, Oscar (Maria) Oranday of Collinsville, Robert (Gloria) Oranday of Yancey and Jimmy (JoAnn) Oranday of Hondo; daughters, Dora (Armando) Hernandez of Frisco, Erlinda (Sebastian) DeLeon of Hondo, Lydia (Samuel) Hernandez of Celina; 32 grandchildren, 93 great-grandchildren and 43 great-great-grandchildren; brothers, Abran (Angelita) Oranday of Bandera and Anselmo (Maria)Oranday of Taylor; and sisters, Severa Fernandez of Bandera, Maria Torres and Irene (Henry) Escamilla, all of Hondo. Visitation will be Wednesday, Aug. 9, from 6 to 8 p.m. at Guinn-Horger Chapel. Funeral service will be at 2 p.m., Thursday, Aug. 10, at Guinn-Horger Chapel. Interment will be at Hondo Cemetery, Guadalupe Section.
