Penny Lee Grunewald Menk, age 69, of Hondo, went to be with the Lord on Thursday, August 23, 2018, in San Antonio. She was born on September 2, 1948. Penny is preceded in death by her beloved husband, Samuel J. Menk; her parents, Vernon and Edna Lee Grunewald and Mary and Nick Nagrodsky; and her brother, Sydney Mercer. She is survived by her sons and daughters-in-law, David and Kathy Menk of Schertz and Michael and Nikki Menk of McQueeney; three granddaughters and their spouses, and six great-grandchildren. Also surviving are her sister, Nicholeen Nagrodsky-Scott (Andrew) of California; sisters-in-law, Linda Mercer and Dancy Tschirhart (Lloyd) and several nephews. Penny was a diverse woman who worked at the newspapers in New Braunfels and Hondo, completed a degree in massage therapy, and graduated from studies in Bible Theology. She was a long time member of Church on the Hill and will be missed by her church family. Visitation will be Sunday, August 26, from 3 p.m. to 6 p.m. and the Funeral will be on Monday, August 27, at 10:00 a.m., all at Guinn-Horger Funeral Home in Hondo. Interment will be at Hondo Cemetery, Oakwood Section. Pallbearers are Randy Gastinger, Kelly Workman, Kevin Workman, Joey Garcia, Adam Leos, and Danny Miranda.
