Robert J. "R.J." Lutz of Hondo, 69, passed away Friday, July 21, 2017 in San Antonio surrounded by family. He was born Dec. 6, 1947, in Hondo to Frank Raymond and Emelia Lena Mussman Lutz. After graduating from D'Hanis High School in 1966, R.J. went to work part-time for DeMontel and then joined the United States Air Force Reserves in 1967. After serving six years in the reserves, R.J. went back to work for DeMontel. In 1965 R.J. meet the love of his life, Nancy Fields Lutz and they got married on Nov. 17, 1968. In January of 1971 they had their daughter, Lynette and then in April of 1973 they had their son, Mark. In 1982 R.J. and Nancy started their own business, Lutz Appliance & A/C and were in business for 32 years. R.J. was a devoted husband, father and grandfather. Outside of work, R.J. had many interests: hunting, fishing and spending time with his family and friends. He always looked for an excuse to get together and have a good time - be it a fish fry, BBQ or a good card game with a cold beer. He also loved going dancing at the Quihi Gun Club and tinkering with something to fix. He was a member of Hermann Sons and Quihi Gun Club. He is preceded in death by his parents and brother-in-law, Merlin Boehle. He is survived by his wife of 49 years, Nancy Ann Fields Lutz; daughter, Lynette (Tim) Henrichson of Hondo; son, Mark (Kim) Lutz of Floresville; grandchildren, Tim Henrichson Jr., Tye Henrichson, Madison Lutz and McKenzie Lutz; sister, Bernice Boehle of Hondo; brothers, Harold (Pam) Lutz of Hondo, David (Beverly) Lutz of D'Hanis, and Sylvan (Carolyn) Lutz of Biry. Visitation will be Tuesday, July 25, 6 to 8 p.m., with Rosary recited at 7 p.m., at Guinn Horger Chapel. Funeral Mass will be at 10 a.m., Wednesday, July 26, at St. John the Evangelist Catholic Church. Interment will be at Hondo Cemetery, Oakwood Section.
