Ralph Jerome Zerr of D'Hanis, 69, born May 6, 1948, went to heaven on Friday, April 27, 2018. Ralph married Joyce Howard in 1979. They were married 17 years and had two daughters. Ralph enjoyed hunting, fishing, camping and other outdoor fun. If you knew him, you knew that his fishing hat was really an extension of him. He loved spending time at and taking care of the Zerr Ranch where he taught his girls how to fish and hunt. He loved to eat out at Dairy Queen and wherever he could find good seafood. A courageous man, he earned several Bronze Stars for his service in Vietnam. He was a very hard worker and a simple kind of man--never wanting for much. Over the last couple of years he fought a complicated blood disorder. As his illness progressed, he moved to Kerrville to be with his daughters. He struggled with blood clots, symptoms of dementia, an agressive form of GERD, and eventually suffered from internal bleeding. He fought for his life with such dignity and grace. Welcoming him to his eternal home are his parents, Mary Belle Carle Zerr and Samuel Jerome "Sammy" Zerr; and his grandparents,Bernard August and Theresa Marie Nester Zerr and Louis A. and Alma K. Boog Carle. He leaves behind his daughters, Michelle (William McBee) Singleton of Centerpoint and Kristin (Travis) Walker of Kerrville; grandchildren, Shawn Singleton, age 13, and Ashley Singleton, age 9, and Ainsley Walker, 9 months; sister, Bernie (David) Dunlap of Corpus Christi; brother, Vick Zerr of D'Hanis; two nieces and three nephews. He will be missed by family and friends. Funeral service will be at 11:00 a.m., Friday, May 4, at Guinn-Horger Funeral Home Chapel. Interment will follow at Holy Cross Cemetery, D'Hanis. The family asks that anyone who has photos they would like to share, to please bring them to the service.
