Ramon "Ray" Cortez, age 91, of Hondo passed away Tuesday, May 12, 2015. Born Aug. 31, 1923, in D'Hanis, he was the son of Narciso Cortez and Ascencion Villarreal Cortez. Ray served in the U.S. Army. He was an electrician and owned Cortez Electric. He was a dedicated family man who worked hard to support his large family. He was also always willing to help out anyone who needed a helping hand. Mr. Cortez always had a joke to share with everyone and always with a smile on his face. He was known by most everyone in Hondo and surrounding areas, and will be missed by everyone who knew him. He is preceded in death by his parents; his wife of 72 years, Rosa Santos Cortez; son, Ricardo "Ricky" Cortez; brothers, Agapito, Loreto and Caterino; and sisters, Santos Camero, Lucia Vega and Manuela Rodriguez. He is survived by daughter, Maria Elvia "Molly" Cortez of Tomball; sons, Ramon "Ray" (Sandra) Cortez of Hondo, Henry "Hank" (Nelda) Cortez of San Antonio, Gerardo "Jerry" Cortez of Dallas; daughter, Rosalinda "Linda" Cortez of San Antonio; and Ronaldo "Ron" Cortez of Austin; 14 grandchildren, 17 great-grandchildren and five great-great-grandchildren; and brother, Francisco Cortez of San Antonio. Rosary at 10 a.m. and Funeral Mass at 10:30 a.m. will be Monday, May 18, at St. John the Evangelist Catholic Church. Interment with military honors at Hondo Cemetery, St. John's Section, will follow.
