Ramon C. Villa of Hondo, age 85, passed away Monday, Jan. 7, 2019. Born Feb. 28, 1933, in Hondo, he was the son of Jose and Concepcion Castillo Villa. He was a loving, caring husband and father. He believed in discipline and taught his children to be good citizens. When grandchildren arrived, he turned his passion and devotion to them. Ramon was a self-taught orchestra and mariachi musician who played several instruments. He especially loved Mariachi music and encouraged his children to be part of his musical groups. An avid fisherman, he was also a master chef and was founder of Villa's Restaurant. He is preceded in death by his parents; daughter, Linda; brothers, Indercio Villa and Augustin Villa; sisters-in-law, Maria Villa and Hortencia Villa; and brother-in-law, Jose Piña. He is survived by his wife, Orfelina Bernal Villa; sons, Joe A., Ramon Jr., John E. and George (Delia) Villa, and daughter, Virginia Ginny (Jackie) Winkler, all of Hondo; 10 grandchildren, 15 great-grandchildren, one great-great-grandchild; brother, Gregorio Villa, and sister, Eloisa Piña, both of Hondo; and sister-in-law, Aurora Villa of Corpus Christi. Visitation will be at Guinn-Horger Chapel on Thursday, Jan. 10, from 11:30 a.m. until 12:30 p.m., with the Rosary recited at 12:30 p.m. Funeral Mass will follow at 1:30 p.m. at St. John the Evangelist Catholic Church. Interment will be at Hondo Cemetery, Oakwood Section.
