Ray Bernsen, 53 of Quihi, passed away on January 17. He was born October 4, 1965 in San Antonio. He graduated from Medina Valley High School in 1983 and attended Southwest Texas Junior College in Uvalde. He is the son of Olivia Hill Bernsen and the late Bernard Bernsen. Ray was a skilled handyman and manager of a building supply store. In his later years, he moved back to the family farm in Quihi, where he helped manage the farm after the death of his father. He was an avid hunter, an expert birdwatcher and could fix just about anything. He was a good friend to all who knew him and had an infectious laugh and strong sense of humor. He is survived by two daughters, Rebecca Bernsen, who is a junior at Texas A&M University in Galveston, and Abigail Bernsen, who lives in Quihi. Also surviving is his mother, Olivia, of Quihi; sister Christine Bernsen Bloemsma and Charles of Austin; as well as brothers John Bernsen of Quihi and James Bernsen and Stephanie of Taylor, Texas. A memorial service will be held at St. John's Catholic Church in Hondo, which he attended, at 11 a.m. on Tuesday, January 22.
