Obituary

Raymond Charles Heiligman, age 72, five months, and four days, of Hondo, passed away March 21, 2004, in San Antonio at the Audie Murphie Memorial VA Hospital. He was born on October 17, 1931, in Hondo, to Anton & Della (Borchers) Heiligman. He was baptized at Bethlehem Lutheran Church, Quihi, at an early age and was confirmed at St. Paul Lutheran Chruch on November 2, 1958, where he was a member until his death. He graduated from Hondo High School in 1950. He was employed by the telephone company and the Texas Highway Department before serving in the U.S. Army from 1952 until 1954, during the Korean War. He was employed by Texas Aviation Industries for several years, then worked in the local oilfields before going to work for the U.S. Postal Service, from which he retired after twenty years. He then delivered meals for the Nutrition Center for five years. He was a lifetime member of the V.F.W. Post 3891 and a member of Dunlay Herman Sons Lodge #285 for 54 years. He married Virginia Moebius on June 22, 1957, at St. Paul Lutheran Church. This union was blessed with three daughters. He loved to hunt, fish and play cards. He played baseball with the Highway 90 league. Raymond was preceded in death by his parents; and a son-in-law: Hilton Whitehead. He is survived by his wife: Virginia (Moebius) Heiligman of Hondo; daughters: Audrey Moncada and husband Zeke of D'Hanis, Cindy Bermea of Uvalde, Debbie Whitehead of San Antonio; grandchildren: Kristy Mendoza, Cody Bermea, Justin Moncada; great grandchildren: Isaac and Austin Moncada; brothers: Lawrence "Fritz" Heiligman and wife Georgia Mae of Hondo, Leroy Heiligman and wife Mary of Hondo; sister: Mary Anne Feltner and husband Bill of San Antonio; brother-in-law: Preston Moebius and wife Gertrude of Hondo; sister-in-law: Irene Wernette of Hondo; and numerous nieces and nephews. Visitation is scheduled from 5:00 pm until 8:00 pm on Wednesday, March 24, at the Guinn-Horger Funeral Home. The Funeral Service is scheduled for Thursday, March 25, 2004, at 10:00 a.m. at the St. Paul Lutheran Church in Hondo. Burial will follow in the Hondo Cemetery, Oakwood Section.
