Obituary

Florine "Renie" Gilliam Garrison Schulte of Hondo, 88, passed away Friday, Dec. 29, 2017. Renie was born in the Lacy House on Tarpley Road on December 2, 1929. She was the daughter of Ashbel C. and Florence M. Lacy Gilliam. She graduated from Hondo High School in 1947. She attended the University of Texas for one year, then married Marcellus R. Garrison on August 28, 1948. In later years, she married Robert J. Schulte. She loved her family, ranching heritage and the First United Methodist Church of Hondo. One of her joys was working tirelessly for the church. In addition, she loved spending time with her family picnicking and eating watermelon on the Hondo Creek. Her children and grandchildren always left home with a coffee can full of chocolate chip cookies. Everyone who knew her loved her, especially her adopted Flying Tiger Aggie family. She was known as "Mimi" to her grandchildren and all of their friends. Renie loved everyone she met. She was a friend to all. She was preceded in death by her parents and her husbands, Marcellus R. Garrison and Robert "Bob" Schulte; son, Marcellus R. Garrison, Jr.; and brothers, Ashbel Olin "Odie" Gilliam and Lacy Claude Gilliam. Survivors include her son, Glenn (Lora) Garrison of D'Hanis; daughter, Marcy (Tom) Rothe of Hondo; grandchildren, Jordan Allen, Donnie Woodbury, Dusty Woodbury, Fabian Garrison, Emily Stewart and Annie DeKoch; 11 great-grandchildren; and brother Ralph C. (Betty) Gilliam of Hondo. Visitation will be Monday, Jan. 1, 5 to 7 pm, at Guinn-Horger Funeral Home Chapel. Memorial Service will be held Tuesday, Jan. 2, 3 p.m. at the First United Methodist Church, Hondo. Private interment will be at Hondo Cemetery. The family suggests memorials be made to First United Methodist Church Building Fund.
