Richard Henry
Moos
August 24, 1939 – January 25, 2025
This is where the Cowboy rides away. Richard Henry Moos went to be with the Lord on January 25, 2025. He was born August 24, 1939, in San Antonio to the late Eugene and Myrtle Moos.
Richard graduated from Hondo High School in 1957 and Sul Ross University-Alpine in 1961. After college, Richard served in the Peace Corps, where he made several lifelong friends working together in El Salvador from 1962-1965. When he returned from abroad, he went to work for the Bureau of Land Management in Craig, Colorado where he met his wife of 57 years, Karen Monk.
After five years in Colorado, Richard and Karen returned to Hondo, Texas to continue the family farm and ranch, a lifelong passion he continued well into his 80s. As a respected member of the agriculture community, Richard served on the Farm Bureau Board of Directors from 1973 to 1977 and the Medina Valley Soil and Water Conservation Board of Directors from 1999-2021. The Hondo Chamber of Commerce named Richard Agricultural Person of the Year in 2002 and Farmer Rancher of the Year in 2003.
Richard was a lifelong member of St. John the Evangelist Catholic Church. He enjoyed dancing, going to rodeos, riding and training horses, hunting trips to west Texas, raising Charolais cattle, Moos family reunions, trips to see family in Colorado, and family vacations to Port Aransas.
Survivors include his wife, Karen; son Rick (Courtney) Moos; daughter Krista (Clay) Binford; grandsons Cody Moos, Kyle Moos, Curtis Binford, and Connor Binford; siblings Betty (the late Herb) Ferrero, Mary Lu (Fred) Schoenfeld, Jack (Paula) Moos, Rudy (the late Mary Jo) Moos, Ginger (Lorenzo) Garcia; and numerous nieces, nephews and other relatives.
Visitation will be held at St. John the Evangelist Catholic Church at 9:30 a.m. Saturday, February 1, followed by the Funeral Mass at 10:00 a.m.
The family suggests that in lieu of flowers memorials be made to the Hondo FFA Booster Club at P.O. Box 838, Hondo, Texas 78861 or to the charity of your choice.
