Richard Charles Schulte, age 75, of Hondo, passed away June 11, 2013, at home. He was born Dec. 10, 1937, in Hondo to Henry J. and Lorrine (Saathoff) Schulte. Richard was a 1956 graduate of Hondo High School, a 1961 graduate of The University of Texas, where he proudly played Longhorn football and received a Bachelor's degree in History, and a 1970 graduate of Tulane University, where he received a Master's degree in Educational Administration. He served in the US Air Force from 1962 until 1971 and reached the rank of Captain. Survivors include his wife of 49 years, Gayle (Tondre) Schulte of Hondo; son, Rod and wife Monica Schulte and grandchildren, Ryan and Samantha Schulte, Kaila Baeza and Hunter Cain, all of New Braunfels; daughter, Tondre Schulte of San Antonio; and daughter-in-law, Jamie Schulte McCammon and grandchildren, Ashton and Evan Schulte of LaCoste; brother, Clyde and wife Yvonne Schulte; and sister, Doris Schulte and husband Carl Gordon, both of California; sister-in-law, LaVerne Wiemers Schulte of Hondo; numerous nieces and nephews. Preceding Richard in death were his parents, son, Reagan Schulte, and brother, Jerome Schulte. Funeral service will be held at 2 p.m., Friday, June 14, 2013, at Guinn-Horger Funeral Home Chapel in Hondo, with Deacon John Schoellman officiating. Interment will be in Quihi cemetery. Pall bearers are Bob Heyen, George Brucks, George Koch, Ashton Schulte, Evan Schulte, and Ryan Schulte. The family suggests that memorials be made to Alzheimer's Association, San Antonio.
