"Bobby" Rothe
March 30, 1934 – May 9, 2021
Robert Amos "Bobby" Rothe, a lifelong resident of the D'Hanis community, passed away at his home on May 9, 2021 at the age of 87. He was born March 30, 1934 in Hondo, Texas to Eric August Rothe and Cora Catharine Finger Rothe.
Bobby attended Seco School, St. Anthony Catholic School and then D'Hanis High School, graduating in 1952. He attended Texas A & M University for one year and then returned home to D'Hanis. He worked as an aircraft mechanic before becoming a farmer, rancher and lumber company owner. He was a first-generation milo, wheat and oats farmer and a Medina County third-generation cattle rancher. In 1964, he and his wife bought the D'Hanis Lumber Company and operated it for ten years.
On July 17, 1954, Bobby married Norma Elizabeth Wolff at Holy Cross Catholic Church in D'Hanis. They were blessed with sixty-six years of marriage, six children, twenty-one grandchildren and twenty-four great grandchildren.
Survivors include his wife, Norma Rothe of D'Hanis; children, Bobbie Joe Rothe (Maria) of D'Hanis, Cindy Lopez (Jerry) of Rockport, Ronnie Rothe (Sheila) of D'Hanis, Kenny Rothe (Lisa), of D'Hanis, Mary Linda Braden (Clay) of D'Hanis and John Rothe (Kimberly) of D'Hanis; twenty-one grandchildren; twenty-four great-grandchildren; sister, Dorothy Rothe Cheney of D'Hanis; sisters-in-law, Rosie Lutz Rothe of D'Hanis, and Adalene Mary Wolff Marquart of San Antonio; brother-in-law, Ray Wolff (Dorothy) of D'Hanis; as well as numerous nieces, nephews and other relatives.
Bobby was preceded in death by his parents, Eric and Cora Rothe; brothers, Lawrence Rothe (Dorothy), and Howard Rothe (Lillian), Joe W. "Billy" Rothe; sister, Margaret Ann Golden (Bob); and brothers-in-law, Wayne Cheney and Harlan R. Wolff.
Visitation will be held Friday, May 14, 2021 beginning at 9:00 a.m. at Holy Cross Catholic Church. The Holy Rosary will be recited that morning at 10:00 a.m., followed by the Mass of the Resurrection at Holy Cross Catholic Church. Interment will follow at Holy Cross Catholic Cemetery in D'Hanis, Texas. A reception for family and friends will follow the cemetery service.
Mass Offerings in Bobby's memory are appreciated as well as memorials in Bobby's memory to the Holy Cross Building Fund.
