Obituary

Robert William "Bob" Nations, age 82, of Hondo, passed away Thursday, July 9, 2009. He was born Sept. 10, 1926, in Gilmer, TX, the son of Oscar Lofton and Lois (Fenlaw) Nations. He served in the U. S. Army between WWII and the Korean War, after which he earned a Master's degree from East Texas State Teachers College. His education career spanned 41 years with Hondo ISD. He was a teacher at Lacey Elementary from mid-term 1951 to 1953 and was principal for 10 years. He served as Hondo High School principal 18 years and then at Meyer Elementary for 10 years, until his retirement in 1981. He coached the junior varsity "Hoots" for most of the 1950s, high school basketball from '58 to '62, and girls' basketball for about five years. He also served as a high school football scout. Bob was active in the community, serving as president of Hondo Lions Club and of the Methodist church board, and leading MYF for several years. He was a member of the Texas Association of Secondary School Principals and took great pride in his work with Special Education. Bob was preceded in death by his parents; brother, Milton Gene Nations; and sister, Josefa Nations. He is survived by his wife of 60 years, Yvonne (Echart) Nations; son, Tobin Robert Nations of Phoenix AZ; daughter, Libby Lynn Nations of Austin; and three grandchildren. Funeral service will be held at 5 p.m., Monday, July 13, at First United Methodist Church. Pallbearers are Dan Nations, Dave Nations, Glenn Schweers, John Zerr, Dan Keith, Melvin White, Butch Woolls, and Clyde Bohmfalk. Interment will be at Hondo Cemetery, Oakwood Section. Memorials may be sent to: Methodist Mission Home, First United Methodist Church of Hondo, or the Medina Healthcare Fund.
