Roberto Nira "El Bugs" Hernandez

Roberto Nira Hernandez of Hondo, 82, passed away Monday, June 15, 2026, at a San Antonio hospital.

Born June 23, 1943, in Hondo Texas. He was the son of Francisco and Ramona Nira Hernandez.

Roberto was a lifelong resident of Hondo and was known as a hardworking, respectful, and devoted family man. He spent his life dedicated to providing for his family and maintaining strong ties to his community. He was a man of quiet strength, strong values, and deep commitment to those he loved.

He is preceded in death by his parents, Francisco and Ramona Nira Hernandez; daughter, Corina Marie Hernandez; sister, Margarita Olibarria; brother, Rosalio Hernandez; and great-grandchildren, Frank Jason Hernandez, Fabian Lee Hernandez, and Adric Jay Reyes.

He is survived by his wife of 62 years, Pilar Flores Hernandez; sons, Ricky Hernandez, Ronnie Hernandez (Rachel), Chris Perez, Janet Tapia Hernandez, Belinda Gonzales and Amy Ledesma (James Barrios); 26 grandchildren, 52 great-grandchildren, 3 great-great- grandchildren; sisters, Olivia Rosales, Belia Hernandez (Mike Mendoza), Adelina Armenta, Josefina Gonzales and Nelda Hernandez; and brothers, Antonio Hernandez and Bernardo Hernandez.

Visitation at Guinn-Horger Funeral Home Chapel will be Monday, June 29, 2026, from 6 to 8 pm, pausing for recitation of the Rosary at 7 pm. 

Mass will be Tuesday, June 30, 2026 at 2 pm at St. John the Evangelist Catholic Church, followed by interment at Hondo Cemetery Oakwood Section.
