Rosa Gauna Garcia of Hondo passed away Friday, Apr. 5, 2024.  She was 79.

She was born Sept. 4, 1944, in Hondo, the daughter of Trinidad and Pauline Segovia Gauna.

A strong, hard-working woman, Rosa was good-hearted and beloved by those who knew her. And, true to her name, she loved roses.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Audensio "Lencho" Garcia; her son, Ernesto Navarro; and siblings, Guadalupe George Gauna, Pablo "Paul" Gauna, Trinidad Gauna Jr., Pedro Gauna, Manuel Gauna, Ignacio Gauna, Emma Garza and Yolanda Gauna.

Survivors include her son, Carlos Navarro (Anita) of Amarillo; daughters, Nellie Benavides, (Ricardo) of Hondo and Tina Wood (James) of Amarillo; eight grandchildren, 14 great-grandchildren and five great-great-grandchildren; and siblings, Guadalupe George Gauna, Pablo "Paul" Gauna, Trinidad Gauna Jr., Pedro Gauna, Manuel Gauna, Ignacio Gauna, Emma Garza and Yolanda Gauna.

Visitation will be Thursday, Apr. 11, 9:30 a.m., at St. John the Evangelist Catholic Church. Rosary will be recited at 10:00 a.m., followed by Funeral Mass at 10:30 a.m. at St. John the Evangelist Catholic Church and interment at Hondo Cemetery Annex.
