Roy William Hartman, age 93, of Hondo passed away Tuesday, May 8, 2007. He was born Feb. 22, 1914, to Charles H. and Katie (Muennink) Hartman, the sixth of nine children. He lived his entire life in the Hondo-Yancey area. He attended Buck Hill School and graduated as Valedictorian from Yancey High School in 1932. He was a basketball star in Yancey with his team going to the State playoffs. He also excelled in track - especially high jumping. Roy married Doris Tracy Moefield on Nov. 8, 1936. They reared three girls, Kathryn Marie, Rowena Jo and Dianne, on the farm at Yancey. Most of his life, he supported his family by farming and ranching. He also worked in an agricultural-related job until his retirement. He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife of 56 years, Doris; three brothers, Frank, Charles and Calvin; and four sisters, Della Mae Hartman, Annie Faseler, Esther Fohn, Hazel Bopp and Lucinda Hartman. He is survived by his second wife, Alice (Geuea) Mumme Hartman; daughters, Kathryn Marie Squires and husband James L. of San Antonio, Rowena Jo Ham, and Dianne Brown and husband M. B. "Rick" Brown, all of the Hondo-Yancey area; nine grandchildren, 21 great-grandchildren, three great-great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews. Visitation will be Thursday, May 10, 4 to 8 p.m., at Guinn-Horger Chapel. Funeral service will be Friday, May 11, 10 a.m., at St. Paul Lutheran Church with Rev. David Mayer officiating. The pallbearers were Roy Squires, Scott Squires, James Roy Ham, David Smith, Ronald "Ron" Squires, Andy Squires, Philip Jander, Richard Brown, Jason "Jeb" Brown. Interment will be at Hondo Cemetery, Oakwood Section. The family suggests memorials be given to Uvalde Hospice, 1038B Garner Field Road, Uvalde, TX 78801, or to St. Paul Lutheran Church, Hondo.
