Roy Lee Long of Hondo, age 80, passed away Wednesday, July 10, 2019. Born Jan. 26, 1939, in Mercury TX, he was the son of Walter Eugene Long and Ethel Daisy Montgomery Long. Roy retired as City of Hondo Parks and Recreation supervisor after 32 years with the city. Roy was happiest when his home was full of family-coming and going, working outdoors at the ranch, and traveling or playing Red Dog with close friends. He was preceded in death by his parents and siblings, Clifton Long, Everett Long, Walter N. Long, Curtis A. Long, Gladys Kemmitz and Florence Elliott. Survivors include his wife of 60 years, Carol Ann Finger Long; Terri L. Kappmeyer (Don Steitle) of San Antonio, Kevin (Sue) Long and Stephen (Ann-Michelle) Long, all of Hondo; grandchildren, Mindi (Andrew) Gilliam, Kyle Kappmeyer, and Kevin William Jr., Mitchell, Lauren and Emma Long; four great-grandchildren; and brother, Joe W. Long of Brownwood. Rosary will be recited at 10:30 a.m., Friday, July 12, followed by Memorial Mass at 11:00 a.m., at Holy Cross Catholic Church, D'Hanis. Following the service, a reception will be held at the D'Hanis Community Center.
