Ruth Ethel (O'Brien) Gaines Hacker, age 96, of Canyon Lake, formerly of Hondo, passed away Wednesday, Nov. 17, 2010. She was born July 12, 1914, in San Antonio, the daughter of Herndon L. and Ethel (Foster) O'Brien. She was a homemaker. She is preceded in death by her parents; husbands, Preston C. Gaines Sr. and Willard Hacker; grandson, Paul Hunter Gaines; brother, H. L. "Pat" O'Brien Jr.; uncle, Thomas Edmund O'Brien; and aunt, Alice Ford. Survivors are her son, Preston Charles Gaines Jr. and wife Charlotte of Hondo; grandchildren, Stephanie Schoellman and husband Philip; Scott David Gaines and Preston Travis "P.T." Gaines, all of Hondo. Graveside service will be held at 3 p.m., Friday, Nov. 19, at the Hondo Cemetery, Oakwood Section.
