Samuel John Koehler Sr., age 89, of Hondo passed away Saturday, Feb. 23, 2008. Sam was born June 2, 1918, in Cisco, TX, son of Robert John and Margaret "Maggie" (Ziehr) Koehler. As a young man, he moved to Hondo where he began farming. After serving in the U. S. Army during WWII, he and Lillie Jane Butler were married. They made their home in Bandera, where he worked for the rural electric cooperative. After returning to Hondo, he worked for a time at Chapman Grain. He later retired as a laborer from the Texas Highway Department and began helping his brother, Ahard, with farming and raising cattle. Sam is preceded in death by his parents; son, Samuel J. Koehler Jr.; brothers, Martin, Albert, Ahard, Robert Jr., and Ernest; and sisters, Annie Koehler, Christina Schueling, Wilhemina Schueling, Frieda Winkler, and Elsie Koehler. Survivors are his wife, Lillie; daughter, Gloria; and nieces and nephews. A private interment service will be held at a later date.
