Samuel O. Shapiro, age 89, of New Fountain passed away Sunday, Sept. 5, 2010. Born March 7, 1921, in Festus, MO, he was the son of Hershel and Nellie (Swaite) Shapiro. He served as a 1st Lieutenant in the U.S. Army Air Force in WWII. He was an independent businessman in the oil well service business and, after retirement, owned a Jeep repair business. He is preceded in death by his parents; his wife of 66 years, Ruth Marie (Riff) Shapiro, who passed away July 23; son, Michael Joseph Shapiro; brothers, Leon and Earl Shapiro; and sister, Betty Jane "Barbara" Sklar. He is survived by his daughter, Carol Ann Shapiro-Parker of Houston; sister, Ann Shapiro Cage; grandchildren, Stephanie Parker Hyman, Daniel Shapiro, Troy Parker, David Shapiro, Lee Andrea Parker Carrijo and Mary Beth Shapiro; 17 great-grandchildren; three great-great-grandchildren; nieces, nephews, great-nieces and great-nephews. Funeral service will be held Saturday, Sept. 11, 2 p.m., at the New Fountain United Methodist Church. Pallbearers are John Riff, Steven Riff, Dan Shapiro, David Shapiro, Troy Parker and Fred Carrijo. Interment will be at New Fountain Cemetery.
