Samuel Jerome Zerr, age 92, of D'Hanis passed away Sunday, Dec. 27, 2009. Born Nov. 30, 1917, in D'Hanis, he was the son of Bernard August and Theresa Marie (Nester) Zerr. He was a sergeant in the U.S. Army Air Corps during WWII and later owned and operated a Gulf gas station/garage for many years in D'Hanis. He loved hunting, fishing, ranching, and cooking, and was "famous" for his brownies. He was an active member of the D'Hanis Volunteer Fire Dept. and helped build the first fire truck. Sam is preceded in death by his parents; wife, Mary Belle (Carle) Zerr; brothers, Arnold Valentine, Lester Maurice, William August "Bill", and his twin, Daniel Authur Zerr; and sisters, Pauline Marie Scott, Corine Regina Koch and Isabel Wall. He is survived by his sons, Ralph Zerr and Victor Zerr, both of D'Hanis; daughter, Bernadette Dunlap and husband David of Corpus Christi; seven grandchildren; and nine great-grandchildren. Rosary at 9:45 a.m. Wednesday, Dec. 30, was followed by Funeral Mass at 10 a.m., at Holy Cross Catholic Church, D'Hanis. Fr. Wallis J. Stiles officiated. Pallbearers were Ray A. Wolff, Ty Dunlap, Dave Williams, David Scott, Victor Zerr Jr., and Benjamin Zerr. Interment with military honors was at Holy Cross Cemetery.
