Sarah Maud
Cameron Moss
November 25, 1926 – April 13, 2022
Sarah Maud Cameron Moss, beloved wife, mother, and sister, rejoined her husband, Sam, and her Heavenly Father on Wednesday, 13 April 2022 at the age of 95.
A memorial service will be held on 14 May 2022, 9 a.m. at the First United Methodist Church in Hondo. A small graveside service will be at a later time.
Sarah was affectionately known as "Cakkie" by all her grandchildren and many friends. The way the story goes, when her first grandchildren were born, she hoped to be called "Grannie Sarah". Cakkie is what she got.
Sarah was born in Hondo 25 November 1926; the daughter of Emmett Taylor and Laura Augusta Whaley Cameron; she was one of six siblings.
Sarah enjoyed attending church at the First United Methodist Church in Hondo. She was an avid reader, accomplished seamstress, and embroidery was one of her favorite hobbies. From a young age throughout her adult life, she loved to dance, especially to the Big Band Era music. She met her future husband Sam in 1947 after "falling" off her bicycle at the filling station where Sam worked for his brother, Lee. They were married a year later in 1948 and remained married for 47 years, until Sam's death in 1995.
In the early 1950's she went to work as a switchboard operator at the Hondo Bell Telephone office and remained there until the switchboard in Hondo closed, at which time she went back to being a full-time mom and homemaker. In the late 1960's she decided to go back to work and went to work for Ralph Jones at Jones' Shoe store. She worked there for
many years. In the mid '70's she and Sam, purchased the Raye Theater. They operated the theater until 1983.
Sarah is preceded in death by her parents; her siblings, Hugh D., Mary Ruth, John Whaley, Emmett Meyer, and Gus Taylor Cameron; her husband, Samuel David Moss; and twin daughters, Laura Michelle Steubing and Linda Michael Donnelly.
Survivors include her son, Samuel Cameron "Cam" Moss of Hondo; sons in law, Keith H. Donnelly and Floyd C. Steubing; grandchildren, Meghan Elizabeth Moss, Colleen Ann and Jacob Lissard, Rachel Marie and Justin Cain, Ruth Anne and Joe Garcia, Anthony Floyd and Tara Steubing, Michael Harold Donnelly, and Kristen Sarah Donnelly; and many great grandchildren and great-great grandchildren.
Memorials may be made to the First United Methodist Church in Hondo. Another church/organization/charity of your choosing would be what Sarah would want.
