Sgt. William Cody Eckhart, age 25, a lifetime resident of Rocksprings, died Saturday, April 10, 2004 in Iraq. He was born September 21, 1978 in Hondo, TX to Ronnie and Terri (White) Eckhart. Sgt. Eckhart graduated from Rocksprings High School in 1997. He was a member of the State Cross Country 1-A Championship Team and the Boy Scouts. Sgt. Eckhart, who's duty station was in Vilseck, Germany, was in the Army and served in Bosnia and Kosova and was killed while serving in Iraq. Survivors include his parents, Ronnie and Terri Eckhart of Rocksprings; grandmother, Dorothy Eckhart of Rocksprings; grandparents, William and Roselyn White of Hondo; sisters, Staci and Erin Eckhart, both of Alpine and numerous aunts, uncles and cousins. Services will be held at the Rocksprings High School Auditorium, Saturday, April 17, 2004, 6:00 p.m., officiated by Pastor Nancy Littlefield. A service will also be held at the First United Methodist Church in Hondo on Sunday, April 18, 2004, 3:00 p.m., officiated by Pastor Beverly Slusher and Pastor Nancy Littlefield. Burial with full military honors will follow at Hondo Cemetery. Public visitation will be Saturday, April 17, 2004 from 3:30-6:00 p.m. at the Rocksprings High School Auditorium. Pallbearers will be Kyle Weaver, Ned Dunbar, Garrett Grooms, Brad Bostick, Willy Richards, Freddy Huser and Orlando Venegas. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Sgt.
