Obituary

Sharie (Moore) Riff, age 61, passed away at her home in the country near Hondo on Dec. 12, 2012. Born in Alice on Aug. 10, 1952, she was the daughter of Jack and Louise (Ward) Moore. As a youngster, Sharie lived in Burleigh, TX, where she attended Piney School until her dad's death. She moved with her mother and sister to Pleasanton, where she graduated from high school, then attended and graduated from business school in San Antonio. In 1970 she went to work for the Selective Service Administration in Pleasanton where she worked for several years before going to work for Schlumberger Well Services. Sharie married Lyle Riff in 1975 and they moved to Liberty, TX, where she went to work for National Pipe and Tube as secretary to the vice president. In 1978 they moved to Tyler, where she was employed as an office manager for Dean Bailey Construction Co. She later obtained her real estate license and sold real estate for Nasits Realty. During this time, Sharie attended Tyler Junior College at night where she took courses in accounting and was a member of Beta Sigma Phi and served as treasurer. With the birth of her first son, Mark, in 1980, Sharie retired from the business world to do the job she liked best: being a wife, mother and homemaker. After living in Tyler for four years, the family moved to Dallas where her second son, Alan, was born in 1983. There she was an active member of the Preston Highlands Garden Club. In 1984 the family moved to Austin. In 1986 they moved to Westlake, LA, where she was active with the church and with her sons' activities in and out of school. Sharie is preceded in death by her father, Jack Moore; her mother, Louise Moore Wood; and her sister, Marti. She is survived by her husband, Lyle of Hondo; sons, Mark and wife Melanie of Baton Rouge, LA, and Alan of Pleasanton; sister and brother-in-law, Pat and Craig White; and stepfather, Jack Wood; all of Pleasanton; and several nieces and nephews. Visitation will be from 5 to 7 p.m. Monday, Dec. 17, at the Guinn-Horger Funeral Home Chapel, Hondo, Texas. Funeral service will be held at New Fountain United Methodist Church, at 10 a.m., on Tuesday, Dec. 18. Interment will be at Hondo Cemetery, Oakwood Section.
