Socorro C. Velasquez of Elgin, Illinois, and formerly of Hondo, age 78, passed away Friday, May 3, 2019. Born in Hondo, Aug. 27, 1940, she was the daughter of Gilberto and Marina Fernandez Cantu. Socorro was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Jose V. "Bebe" Velasquez; and sisters, Petra Ortiz and Rita Cantu. She leaves behind her son, Jose Luis (Lorena) Velasquez, and grandchildren, Luis D. Velasquez and Mia L. Velasquez, all of Elgin IL. Rosary will be recited at 10:30 a.m., followed by a Memorial Mass at 11:00 a.m., Tuesday, May 14, at St. John the Evangelist Catholic Church. Interment of ashes will be at Hondo Cemetery, Guadalupe Section.
