Sofia Escamilla Decker, age 71, of San Antonio passed away Monday, Jan. 26, 2015. Born in Hondo, Dec. 2, 1943, she was the daughter of Luis L. and Isabel Muniz Escamilla. Sofia loved life and had a very happy spirit. Her happiest moments were with her children, grandchildren and great-grandchild. Sofia enjoyed listening to music and dancing. She was also a hair stylist for over 30 years, which was another one of her passions. Sofia touched so many hearts and was loved by many. She will be greatly missed. Sofia was preceded in death by her parents; brothers, Julio M. Escamilla, Juan M. Escamilla and Efrain M. Escamilla; and sisters-in-law, Elvira Escamilla and Florinda Escamilla. Survivors include her sons, Ricardo Mendiola Jr. of San Antonio, Michael Mendiola of LaPorte; daughter, Sandra Joy of San Antonio; six grandchildren, Samantha R. Barron, Michael A. Mendiola Jr., Frank B. Barron IV, Corbin D. Joy, Alexandrea M. Gillihan, Halie A. Gillihan; one greatgrandchild, Eylani A. Cantu; brothers, Luis Fidencio M. (Elvira) Escamilla Jr. of Hondo and Oscar M. (Lucinda) Escamilla of Kerrville; sisters, Clotilde E. (Efrain) Abreo of Austin, Juliett E. (Vincent) Morales of San Antonio, Ayda Lydia E. (Camilo) Carranza of Taylor and Belia E. (Pedro) Aguilar of Austin; sister-in-law, Maria Escamilla of Hondo; and numerous nieces and nephews. A memorial service will be held Wednesday, Feb. 4, 2015, at Guinn Funeral Home Chapel in Hondo, Texas.
