Obituary

Stella Louise Mumme of Hondo, went to be with the Lord on Sunday, August 10, 2008, at her home, at the age of 58 years. Stella was born on April 23, 1950, in Hondo, Texas, the daughter of Stanley Louis & Ella Minnie (Falkenberg) Mumme. She was the fourth of six children. Stella grew up on a farm north of Hondo with her five brothers and sisters. She graduated from Hondo High School in 1968. She then continued her education at Texas Tech in Lubbock and graduated in 1972 with a bachelor degree in Home Economics. Stella first taught school at Plainview, Texas. Then moved back to Hondo and worked as a soil conservation technician for Medina County. She was very proud of her job as the first female soil conservation technician in the State of Texas. She then worked as a soil conservation technician in Pearsall. After that she designed and made clothing for people who worked on farms and ranches, followed by other jobs which kept her close to nature and able to work outside. She loved being outdoors. Stella was very proud of her German heritage, often naming her various pets German names. She enjoyed all of her animals her goats, chickens, etc. but she especially delighted in her peacocks and dogs. She also enjoyed her years of work in 4 H, FFA, FHA, and the Cattle Women's Association. Stella grew up in the Hondo Methodist Church and was active in MYF and choir. She later joined Alamo Heights Methodist in San Antonio. Reading the Bible was very important to Stella and she spent much time talking with her mother and others about its meanings. Stella liked cooking and using family recipes. She spent time with her aunt, Ida Balzen, learning German Recipes. She liked dressing in her own designs and loved wearing her different hats and boots. She is preceded in death by her Father; sister-in-law, Debbie Mumme. Stella is survived by her mother; sisters, Nancy Fayrene Mumme of Houston, Patsy Ruth Ditsch and husband Craig of Texarkana; brothers, Billy Joe Mumme of Fredericksberg, Robert Charles Mumme of Hondo, Jimmy A. Mumme and wife Becky of Hondo; and her nieces and nephew, Julie Mumme Smith and husband, Gerry of Gail, Candaee Ditsch of Irving, Jim Bob Mumme of Hondo, Brandi Mumme of San Antonio and Krystle Mumme of Dallas. She is also survived by many aunts and uncles. The Funeral Service will be at 10:00 a.m. on August 16, at the United Methodist of Hondo. The casket carriers were Paul Honig, Gerry Smith, Ken Hanson, Bryan Hartnett, Ralph C. Stiegler, Jr., Robert Schmidt, Richard Moos, Joe Kailipaka. Buria followed at the Hondo Cemetery, Oakwood Section.
